ONCOLOGY MASSAGE
Oncology Massage is an approach to massage therapy based on both compassion and specialized massage treatments designed to help people manage their experience with cancer. Review of the scientific literature indicates Oncology Massage helps improve quality of life.
Benefits of Oncology Massage include improved relaxation, sleep, as well as relieving pain, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and nausea. Oncology Massage can include the desire for a respite – a relaxing pleasurable experience in the midst of everything that is going on, helping each person to get through the remainder of his/her cancer treatments.
With comprehensive training in general massage therapy, Deborah Hunter Jones, Oncology Massage Therapist completed the Oncology Massage Training Program at Boston Medical Center. She has also completed additional oncology massage training and served as a teaching assistant for the "Oncology Massage: Caring for Clients With Cancer" seminar.
When working with persons living with cancer, a primary goal is to nurture and support them on their personal journey.
Today, Oncology Massage and other complementary therapies are a valued part of the cancer treatment planat prominent hospitals; such as Dana Farber Cancer Institute Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Mass General Hospital Cancer Center, and locally at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Vernon Cancer Center.
No matter where you are on your journey with cancer,
Oncology Massage can be beneficial, supporting you on your path to wellness.
